Graveside Services and Interment for Richard Singleton, 76, of Anderson County, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Sunday in New York Cemetery, Henderson County, with Rev. Keith Kniffen officiating under the direction of
Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens.


Mr. Singleton died February 19, 2010 in Athens.

He was born July 15, 1933 in Daytona Beach, Florida, to the late Edgar and Grace Smith Singleton.

Richard attended Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, graduating in 1951. For the next two years, Richard attended the University of Florida before joining the U.S. Navy in 1953. While in the Navy, Richard had various duties such as pharmacist and corpsman and continued those duties into the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Richard held various jobs in the automotive and sporting goods industries. In 1960, Richard married the love of his life Dora Lee Roddy. While Dora had a son Michael, from another marriage, Richard loved and raised Michael as his own. In 1961, Richard and Dora had their only child together, Richard Jr. In 1965, Richard moved the entire family west to Los Angeles, California. While there Richard worked for AAA and Proctor-Silex. He would continue to work for Proctor for 16 years, gaining the position of Region Manager and retiring in 1995. In 2005, Richard and Dora made their final move to Athens, Texas where Michael and his family lived and where Richard would enjoy his favorite hobbies of fishing, gardening and traveling.

Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dora Lee Singleton Octobe 20, 2007, and his sister, Nancy Martin, of Atanta, Georgia

Survived by sons and daughters in law, Richard and Donnell Singleton, Dallas, Michael and Tanis Singleton, Palestine, grandchildren, Steven Singleton, Athens, Lauren Singleton, Murfsfreeboro, Tennessee, Tyler Singleton, and Faith Singleton, both of Palestine.

IN lieu of usual remembrances, memorials may be made to the Alheimers Association.
