Mary Alice Bennett Fields, 78, entered into eternal rest February 19, 2010 in Athens.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, February 22, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Athens with Rev, Jack Matkin officiating and a private burial preceding the services at Oaklawn Memorial Park, in Athens.
Mary Alice was born October 25, 1931 to the late James and Anna Brown Bennett in Corsicana, Texas. At the age of five she moved to Athens with her family. After Athens High School she attended Henderson County Junior College. Mary Alice then married the love of her life, W.B. (Boone) Fields, May 13, 1950 and they were married 51 wonderful years in which they had five sons.
Mary Alice was a giving, compassionate, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmaw, great grandmother, friend and "Mammaw". She was a Girl Scout and a Junior Red Cross. Mary Alice was a Sunday school teacher for many years at First Christian Church in Athens. Mary Alice was a lifelong volunteer who was a 4-H leader for Pioneer 4-H and a Boy Scout troop leader. She was instrumental in leading the exhibitor's breakfast for the Henderson County Livestock Show. Mary Alice was a member of the Athens Cooking Club, Henderson County Literary Club and the Attorney's Wives Club. She was a person that could always be counted on for advice, friendship, love and support.
Mrs. Fields is survived by five sons, Wes Boone Fields and wife Julie, Austin, Joe Fields, Phillip Fields and wife Cindy, David Fields, James and wife Cheryl, all of Athens, two brothers, Jack Bennett and Pat Bennett, both of Athens, three sisters, Conner Barnes, Houston, Lois Ann Ditto, Arlington, and Margaret Redden, Rockwall, grandchildren, Andrew Fields, Wade Fields, Justin Fields, Christi Getz and husband Chad, Amber Baskin, Caroline Fields and fiancée Chris Paroline, Melanie Bynog and husband Chase, Jennifer Currey and husband David, 6 great grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, W.B. Boone Fields in 2001 and brothers, Jimmy and Corky Bennett.
Pallbearers are Wes Boone Fields, Joe Fields, Phillip Fields, David Fields, James Fields and Jack Bennett.
Visitation for family and friends will be 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
