Bill Adams of Athens died February 21, 2010. He was born on October 22, 1930 in Crandall, Texas to Dow and Lennie Adams. Bill is preceded in death by sister Mary Edith Ashworth and brothers Roderick, Jack, Ray, and Mack Adams.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Athens with Faulk Landrum officiating.
Bill grew up in Kaufman County and graduated from Kaufman High School. In 1953, Bill joined his brothers Mack and Ray as a partner in Adams Brothers, Inc., a heavy highway construction company based in Athens. In 1973, along with nephews Donny Campbell and Jerry Mack Adams, Bill purchased the company from his brothers. The company expanded the construction operation in 1984 with the addition of Henderson County Asphalt Company. Bill remained company president until the firm was sold in 2008. Adams Brothers was responsible for the construction of over 1,500 miles of interstate, state and farm-to-market roads throughout East Texas.
Bill was an active member of the Associated General Contractors of Texas. He served as a member of the Board of Directors from 2001-2002 and was named a Life Member in 2008 for outstanding service to the highway construction industry.
Bill is survived by his daughters Julie Adams Fields and husband Boone, Austin; Amy Adams Pond and husband Douglas, Maputo, Mozambique; Jill Adams, Austin; grandchildren Andrew Fields and Caroline Fields, and numerous nieces and nephews.
