Obituary for William Olen Gregg

Funeral services for William Olen Gregg 89, Athens have been scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday May 18, 2019 at St. Edwards Catholic Church with Fr. Nolan Lowry officiating. Burial will follow at Cottonwood Cemetery under the direction of Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
Mr. Gregg passed away Monday evening.
He was born June 10, 1929 in Athens to the late Henry Bane and Mary Lillie Dennis Gregg. W.O. was a graduate of Athens High School. After graduating W.O. joined the United States Air Force and while stationed in San Antonio he met and married his loving wife Pat. After his military service W.O. and Pat settled in Houston where he worked as a Real Estate Broker. They moved to Athens with their family in 1980 where he worked for the Henderson County Appraisal District as an Appraiser. After he retired W.O. could not stand by and be idle so he went to work driving a truck for a Tom’s Snack Food Distributor. He and Pat were members of St. Edwards Catholic Church and W.O. was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served a period of time as Grand Knight. W.O. loved being outdoors fishing or working in his garden. He loved all kinds of animals and loved doing genealogy research.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Robert Gregg, John Henry Gregg, Arvel Gregg, sisters; Vera Gregg, Hazel Gregg and Mary Powers.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years Pat Gregg of Athens, son; Tim Gregg and wife Sherry of Bailey, Colorado, daughter; Kathy Gregg of Seven Points, granddaughter; Christy Turner and husband John of Nacogdoches, step grandchildren; Kelsey Soloninka and husband Kevin of Castle Rock, Colorado, Chris Harper of Denver, Colorado, great grandchildren; Logan and Jacob Turner both of Nacogdoches, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday evening from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
